How to Keep a Giant Metal Bull Warm

Hey everyone! Happy Tuesday- for those of you lucky ones (like me!) that had a long weekend this weekend, I hope you enjoyed it! I had a GREAT laaaaaazy weekend, complete with homemade dinners (Lobster Risotto, courtesy of ME!), some sofa shopping for Glenn, and catching up on some of our favorite shows- Big Bang Theory, Battlestar (FINALLY starting to chip away at season three- it’s KILLING me to have to wait to keep watching it! Holy crap, Adama is awesome….), and a new favorite for me, Parks and Recreation (just in time for the new season to kick off!) We also watched a movie this weekend that I can’t believe it took me so long to see- Kick Ass. I loved it! MAN, that Mindy character is so bad-ass- if it wouldn’t be creepy for a 27-year-old woman to assume the identity of a 12-year-old girl, I would totally throw her alter  ego into the running for my costume for Dragon*Con 2011 (right now, it’s coming down to Leela (from Futurama), Zelda (from…Zelda), and Starbuck, Kara Thrace (if I can manage to do it without looking too frumpy- she has a LOT more muscles than I do, lol…)

Last night, I did manage to be a little productive. I mapped out a couple of new designs for some scarves I plan to make and got busy on one of them, a ripple-effect scarf in a colorway that reminds me of the beach. I think that might make it extra warm. 😉 I can’t believe it is almost time for me to pack up the winter-gear and start figuring out warm-weather designs- home furnishings? Jewelry? I have some ideas, but it’s so hard to think Spring when it is so gray and miserable here. I miss Christmas.

SPEAKING of Christmas- right after Christmas, I wrote about Olek, an artist in New York who spent hours overnight pulling together a fully crocheted sweater for the Wall Street Bull. If you missed it, take a look:

I thought this was one of the coolest instances of guerrilla needlework that I have seen. Since I made this post, I’ve actually come across a video that the artist posted that shows her process.

I think watching her actually pull this together gives a much better insight into the amount of work that this must have taken- I am really impressed with how, without any official dimensions or a live model, she was able to design this sweater to be really, a perfect fit! And even MORE impressed that she was able to get the entire thing installed and sewn together without attracting any attention from security or police officials. Ugh, I hate the sewing-together-phase of even SMALL projects!

I wonder what was going through the head of the security guard who DID cut the installation down while he was doing so- I’m sure to him, this must have been VERY unexpected. Bully to you, Olek!
